That tension, even in my memories of Africa, is either front and center or lingering in the background of my memories. I guess I've decided that being white in Africa is a valid experience, different from being a black African, but no less real, just different.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17285537502589130920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1147467572829447451.post-71818254477035282122012-01-29T20:58:43.519-08:002012-01-29T20:58:43.519-08:00Awesome photos. I remember one visit to a Masaai village when I was grateful for the warm cokes one of the men had traveled on foot (for miles) to get for us, carrying them in a wooden box on his head, while working on eating the goat stew (not thankful for that), and thankful I as female and so not required to partake of the blood and fat mixture my Dad was "honored" to partake in. A disconcerting mixture of feelings at the moment, now I'm thankful for it all.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17285537502589130920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1147467572829447451.post-63859736186052052682012-01-29T20:52:29.170-08:002012-01-29T20:52:29.170-08:00I'm going through and reading all of these pos...I'm going through and reading all of these posts. Your post Made me wonder whether if America went metric we might start to spontaneously queue. Certainly a pervasive feeling of competition and anxiety is no way to run a nation or an airport... but we must learn from examples what TO do and not just what NOT to do.

Your gloss here is the first time I've felt a desire to actually visit an airport and not just get through an airport on the way to the destination (which I am slowly learning is always home, wherever we are; there's no place like it)—lovely teaching in this, so thank you & NamasteAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1147467572829447451.post-85971524399799970022010-11-17T16:54:21.189-08:002010-11-17T16:54:21.189-08:00Katie, oh Katie. I notice that the leaves are mostly off the trees up there now. NC is a few weeks behind that. The leaves have all turned color here but are still mostly hanging on (at least up here in Cedar Grove), though not for much longer.

I also noticed that you managed to get a seed bank in your Amsterdam 3 photo -- nice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1147467572829447451.post-61217493539499638592010-11-05T12:32:10.896-07:002010-11-05T12:32:10.896-07:00I would like you to wear those wedding outfits whe...I would like you to wear those wedding outfits when you pick me up at the airport.tbairdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16401984172060807203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1147467572829447451.post-43202786234914276612010-11-05T08:10:34.332-07:002010-11-05T08:10:34.332-07:00You and Eleanor both look gorgeous!
