Two of Eleanor's favorite past times include (1) getting dirty and (2) collecting things. Usually, she favors doing these two things together...and it seems that her motto is "the dirtier the better." Our yard provides a perfect place in which to accomplish these two goals, especially lately.
In addition to the several dozen coffee plants, with little beans perfect for little fingers, we have avocado, papaya, and guava trees, two tomatillo plants, squash vines, several flowering trees, canna lilies (and their seed pods), hibiscus flowers, and little white daisies. Each and everyday Eleanor makes the rounds to these plants, carefully selecting the best fruits and flowers, which she then scatters around the yard as she moves along.
Given her penchant for all things growing, we have added botanist to the long list of things we now think Eleanor may grow up to become. Also on the list, skydive instructor.

ReplyDeleteIt dawned on me a couple of days ago that we will likely not see you guys again, and I was immensely sad. Terribly and horribly sad. Is it true? You guys are leaving this summer, for real? I hope that Chapel Hill will be on your East Coast tour next time you three take one. Know that you will always have a place to stay with us.

Once again such a treat to see the posting!!! You know our yard and how much stick picking up I do; I think Eleanor and Grandma will have a great time in the woods this fall. Grandpa is great at creating more picking up of sticks so we will keep her very busy!! Looking so forward to having her explore this yard. Love you MOM
ReplyDeleteAh, I think she and Dylan would get along smashingly. In the past year he has carried his greatest love for collecting to organizing and categorizing. He's a bit obsessive about it actually. He is also very much into containers, of all shapes and sizes. Give her some baskets and cups to hold her treasures and see what she does. Clearly she has a great love for the wind in her hair. No doubt a good sign - for something.
ReplyDeleteEvidently picking up sticks is like the gene for baldness, except this one is traced from the maternal grandmother! Eleanor & Grandma will be in heavan together as they scour the wood for any errant sticks. They'll make a great pair!
